The GS Skills Academy and Artisan Development Centre is situated in Standerton and aims to develop the labour force in South Africa in terms of the priority skills needed in industry. Training based on the needs of industry comprises apprenticeships, learnerships, short skills courses, NATED programmes and a bridging programme for Level 2.

The Centre of Specialisation (COS) is part of the Skills Centre where Millwright training, according to the new Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) qualification, takes place. The Centre is also accredited to do trade testing in specific trades. This initiative is supported by the industry.

Training that needs workshops can only be offered in Standerton, but all other training can be done across the Gert Sibande Region as per requirements of the different qualifications.
